I AM A BIRTH AND POSTPARTUM DOULA.
My intent is to support body, mind and spirit completely. To provide compassionate, respectful and loving support before, during and after you give birth.
The birth experience can have a profound and deepening affect on a person. My hope is for parents to feel informed during their pregnancy and labor, so they can make the best possible decisions for their family, supported by an unbiased support team and meet their baby feeling empowered by their birthing experience.
I can be a source of information for you. If I don’t know the answer, I will find it. The themes we may discuss before labor are:
- the stages of labor
- natural ways to cope with labor
- the use of pain medications
- induction of labor
- tests
- breastfeeding
- cutting of the umbilical cord
- your baby’s first bath
- self-care
- circumcision
- the fourth trimester
- placenta medicine
I am committed to holding a space in which you can lean into with safety and reassurance. Whether labor becomes stagnant or intense, I have tools to support you.
- TENS Unit
- traditional Mexican Rebozo
- suggesting different positions
- breath awareness
- visualization
- massage and counter pressure
- aromatherapy
- essential oils
- heat and cold packs
- reassurance
- music
Studies have shown that when doulas attend births, labors are shorter with fewer complications, and babies are healthier and breastfeed more easily.
The statistics below are taken from the book “Mothering the Mother, How a Doula Can Help You Have a Shorter, Easier and Healthier Birth” by Marshall H. Klaus, John H. Kennell, Phyllis H. Klaus.
- 50% reduction in the cesarean rate
- 25% shorter labor
- 60% reduction in epidural requests
- 40% reduction in oxytocin use
- 30% reduction in analgesia use
- 40% reduction in forceps delivery
