About Me

Welcome!
I am happy you’re here.  Congratulations on your pregnancy.  This is a very exciting time that deserves much respect and love.

I serve families on Whidbey Island, including the towns of Clinton, Langley, Coupville and Oak Harbor. My journey of attending births and caring for new families started in the spring of 2007.   I had the honor of supporting and witnessing my best friend give birth to her beautiful son.  I was in awe!  Witnessing such a miraculous and profound event changed me forever.  I have always been curious about birth.  As a child I can remember asking the adults in my life to tell their birth stories and loving every story.

I gave birth to our daughter in 1998 and I gave birth to our son in 2004.  After the birth of our children, each time, we were in a new world full of beautiful and sacred moments but hazed over by the lack of sleep and all our questions.  Lots of wonderment on how to take care of our new bundles of joy.  I don’t feel we changed as people but we were getting to know our new roles as parents, right along with getting to know this new little person.  The people who showed up and helped my husband and I adjust were priceless!  During that delicate and emotional time we needed the support from wise parents and we’re forever grateful we got some help.  I love my family deeply, it’s grown and it includes my nephew as well now and every day I’m reminded of how important my role as a parent is.  I’ve worked with families as early as my teen years.  I’ve had the honor of caring for a few special families as their nanny and I have experience as a teacher’s assistant in Montessori preschools.  My journey as a doula started in 2008. Connecting with and caring for other families brings so much joy to my life.  I learn an incredible amount about people, family, life, courage, strength, love and fear and I take these lessons very seriously. The families I have served have left me feeling honored and humbled to serve them and I am grateful.  I have experience working with all kinds of families, including families born through adoption.  I support my LGBTQ community and I am an advocate for transgender youth.  I live on the south end of Whidbey Island and I love to spend time in nature.  I have two dogs (I wish I had three), a cat and chickens and my favorite vacations are spent in a tent camping.

My Training

In January of 2008 I took my first series of doula classes at Twin Lakes College of the Healing Arts.  I attended the Midwifery Conference by Midwifery Today and took workshops from midwives like Ina May Gaskin.  I’ve attended a Birthing From Within Mentors workshop facilitated by Virginia Bobro.  I completed 48 hours of classes in Holistic Childbirth and Quantum Midwifery by Whapio Diane Bartlett with studies in Anatomy and Physiology, Prenatal Care, Holistic Birth, the Placenta and Placenta Medicine, Sexual Wisdom, Conflict Resolution and Peacekeeping skills.  I’ve completed a four hour workshop with Gena Kirby, learning the art of using a Rebozo.
